Corry (73), grandmother of Beer (2), shares why she still donates to the Máxima

The Princess Máxima Center Foundation has many special donors. From time to time, we ask someone about their motivation. Corry (73), the grandmother of Beer (2), shares her story:
‘When Beer was diagnosed with leukemia, everything turned upside down.
He underwent a stem cell transplant, and because of the risk of infection, only a few people were allowed to visit him. Fortunately, I was able to see him regularly, even though I had to wear a mask. When you see your grandchild that sick, it breaks your heart. And yet, Beer was often cheerful, unbelievably so.
After months of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and a stem cell transplant, he received the bead of completion in April 2024. Now he has check-ups four times a year, and he is doing incredibly well. He is a very happy and lively toddler who absolutely adores his grandmother. To ensure that children like Beer continue to have such a strong chance of being cured, significant funding for research is needed. That is why, on my birthday, I now ask family and friends to donate to the Princess Máxima Center Foundation instead of giving me a gift. It is necessary. I have seen how important it is.’
